Malaysia's halal exports reached 43.4 billion Malaysian ringgit ($11.23 billion) in 2017, according to local media reports citing the Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC).
This 2.6 percent rise from 2016 is down from the 7.36 percent rate of growth from 2015 to 2016, based on Salaam Gateway calculations.
HDC told Salaam Gateway in an earlier report that a thorough analysis has not been done to determine the factor or factors contributing to this drop and that this will only be available in the next few weeks.
