Tabung Haji (TH) has been urged to continue providing free accommodation for Haj pilgrims in transit this year.

Wanita Umno chief Datuk Dr Noraini Ahmad in a statement said, the pilgrims, as TH depositors, deserve good treatment such as free accommodation before departing for the Holy Land.

“It is first time in the history, free accommodation for transit pilgrims was removed and they have to fork out extra money.”

Noraini said the pilgrims deserve free accommodation as what had been implemented by TH since 33 years ago.

She said not all pilgrims can afford to pay more for accommodation and it is not right for TH to take advantage of the pilgrims in this manner.

“TH as the main agency entrusted to manage Haj matters in Malaysia should take care of the pilgrims’ welfare, especially those from outside of the capital.”

It is learnt that TH is providing accommodation to the pilgrims and their relatives at Movenpick Hotel and Convention Centre (MHCC) in Sepang, but the cost has to borne by the pilgrims themselves.

On July 13, TH operation director Datuk Syed Salleh Syed Abd Rahman explained that the decision was made unanimously by TH committee.
