What type of applications are ineligible for Malaysia’s halal certification?

The Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) is widely viewed as the world's most robust halal certifier.

Apart from halal certifying within Malaysia, JAKIM also currently recognises 67 certification authorities from 41 countries to monitor or verify the halal status of raw materials, ingredients and products. These foreign halal certification bodies must comply with JAKIM's halal procedures and guidelines.

The implementation of Malaysia's halal certification is based on a manual that was last revised in 2014 and published in 2015.

The manual covers details of the halal certification scheme, including conditions for certification, general requirements, application and audit procedures.

As a broad guide, the manual sets out 15 applications that would be ineligible for halal certification.
